Vessas' Journal Update

My wife has updated her character's journal from our last gaming session. If you have not read the whole thing yet, you can take a look here.

 (Reunion)

It is dusk when we finally reach our destination. The camp is just as devastated as we anticipated. Smoking craters tear through the camp, leaving a haze in the air. Through the smoke screen we can make out two large shapes in the distance.  Straining my eyes I just make out that the larger is a bison. That can only mean one thing. Stepping forward I call a traditional greeting, from trollkin to another. It must be one of my people. The figure straightens, looks my direction and approaches cautiously. “Vessas?” he enquires. With a cry I spring forward, this is someone I know! In fact, it is none other than Keblan, we would play together as youth before his kriel left ours for other pastures. He has grown since the last time I set eyes on him. With a hug, I introduce the Rider to my group and then we sit and start catching up as the others explore the camp.
Gorem and Whist circle the camp, making their observations and then reporting back. It is obvious this was an ambush; most everyone is dead although it looks like a couple may have escaped. This looks more like a political group than a research gathering though. I notice the gobber is off looting goggles from one of his own, predictable. Thale asks Gareth if his friend we were coming to meet is among the dead. He is, but it looks like his assistant is missing, possibly one of the survivors. True to character, Gorem taps the only undamaged keg as Keblan and I rejoin the group. Keblan tells us that he was tracking a Khadoran force when he came across this place. He was following them to keep his kriel out of their way. It looks like anything of value has already been looted from this place, but we set an uneasy watch anyway. Gareth and Gorem take first shift, sharing ale as they settle against the barrel.
It’s sunlight that waked us from our slumber. With unease we stand and find the dwarf asleep in his cups. Gareth is nowhere to be found, the tablet and hammer are gone also. Waking the dwarf takes a little effort and we realize it is more than just strong ale that has come over him. Thale takes a look around the camp and finds where Gareth went off after the other survivors. Keblan decides to join us for this part of our journey, so we all mount up as best we can with the mounts at hand. Thankfully the bison is strong enough to carry two trollkin so that my horse can be used by another.
A couple hours down the path we see where Gareth joined up with someone else who apparently had a horse for him. We don’t break for lunch since our quarry has a good lead on us now. By mid-day we see smoke on the horizon. The gobber and Thale sneak ahead to check out the situation. There is good cover in the woods to our right so they circle through that to see a tent standing on the edge of the wood. There are two men outside, neither of which they recognize. As they start back to tell us, we realize Gorem is already running towards the camp. He wishes revenge for the drugging in his ale. With a cry the rest of us start charging, might as well try to protect the party. I can only hope that these are not innocent bystanders. The gobber reaches the camp first but trips and misses both men. Thale hits and kills his target and Gorem catches the other man by surprise killing him as well. Whist razorwinds the tent in the chance that Gareth might be there, but it falls in tatters and is empty. Looking up, we can see a rider in the distance, without stopping to check with the party Keblan and I take off after him.

Sunday Progress Report

This post is a bit later then I have originally intended, but that's how life goes sometimes... I didn't get a whole lot done this week due to a birthday party, Iron Kingdoms RPG Session and trying to adjust to Daylight Savings Time; does that kick anyone else's butt? Usually takes me a day or two to adjust. But hey, I did make progress! Which is a lot better then what I have been doing the past few years. I've glued together Gorim Ironstone (Forge Father MVP), 4 guards and 2 Jacks; with my 2 Strikers were already done at the beginning of the week so that only leaves 2 more Jacks to clean and assemble. I didn't do anything with the Micro Arts Studio District 5 buildings besides showing them off to my gaming group. I hope to finish my assembling my Jacks, possibly John Doe (Nameless MVP) and coat everything with a layer of primer. I've also felt the blog was a bit quite this past week, so I've planned a few things this week that should make things a bit more interesting.

Sunday Progress Report

A quick update from me on my progress in reaching my goals.

This is the current state of my Forge Fathers from Dreadball. Sadly in the same state they started the month in. At least I cleared off my desk so I can maybe, sometime get to them.

These guys on the other hand... At the start of the month, only the L-shaped building on the left was assembled while the other three were still in their shrink wrap. I really have to thank my wife for the progress on these. It was a team effort with us cutting/punching out the first building, then I punched out the other two while she assembled all three. She use to make doll houses when she was a kid so she enjoys this kind of thing with bonus points for helping me out. Now I just need to figure out what color I want to paint them; if you have any suggestions, post a reply and let me know.

Taking Root

Time to try something new... I've been lax in my table top hobbies for a while (kids!) and have been thinking of doing a blog to get the sap flowing. I have plans to document my painting goals, Kickstarters I'm backing, review of model/gaming announcements,  Iron Kingdom RPG session progress, a few battle reports and post here or there about my second hobby, home brewing. We'll see how well I follow to my plans...

I guess a quick synopsis of me; as a kid I got Battle Masters and Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel which were the gateway drugs to tabletop gaming. Sadly no one played these games with me. Wasn't until High School I got into the library of Games Workshop games and found opponents to play against. Since then I've ensured my immortality by having a large collection of miniatures waiting to be painted from a variety of games and companies. My hobby time took a hit after my kids were born, but soon they'll be able to join me in the hobby if they so desire.

Now to the meat; the beginning of the month calls for planning the months activities. To help ease me back into working on my hobby projects, I'll keep my goals for this month small. First off I want to paint my Forge Father Dreadball team in the style of the New York Giants home colors. I find some twisted amusement in having dwarfs associated with Giants. We'll see what my Giants fan friend thinks of my team after it's done. Lastly (baby steps) I want to assemble and paint my District 5 buildings by Micro Arts Studio.

At the moment, the only Kickstarter project I'm backing (which is a change from the past few months) is Godslayer. It's a nice mixture of historical based and fantasy based factions. It's over in less then 24 hours, so have a peek if you're interested. Megalith Games has a lot of information up on their website.

That should be it for now; don't be surprised if the look of the blog changes as I tweek things.
